Committee Volunteers Needed

Please look over the Committee Descriptions on the EWTG website and consider becoming more active in the organization.

Participating on a committee is a great way to support EWTG, learn new skills and to meet other interesting executive women. As with so many things, "the more you give, the more you get."

January 2016

President's Corner

Wow, can you believe another year has gone by??  It is time for New Year’s resolutions.  I know the normal resolutions are to lose weight, save money, organize, get fit, stop smoking, etc.  But what about going to more EWTG luncheons or mini-courses, or join an Executive Success Team (EST), or join a board or conference committee?  These are resolutions that you can stick to throughout the year and grow as an individual in the process.

For those of you who were able to attend the conference in November, we got to hear Beverly Chiodo talking about character.  She gave examples of how good character can help you succeed in life and in your career.  By becoming more involved with EWTG, you can build a stronger character, as well as, gaining valuable knowledge and experience that you can take back to your current job or future jobs.

My hope is that when you are deciding on a New Year’s resolution, you will consider the options above.  And if so, I look forward to seeing each and every one of you at EWTG events this year.  Here is to a great 2016 year!!

EWTG Congratulates the 2015 Woman of the Year

At the EWTG Annual Conference in November, the Woman of The Year was awarded to Deborah Shaw-Boatner.  In honoring Deborah this year, we celebrate her 40 years of achievement and community service.

Deborah started her career as an Auditor at the State Comptroller’s Office. Over the next 37 years she has served in key positions for various state agencies in public accounting, auditing and management including: the former State Treasury, the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Texas Lottery Commission before returning once more to the State Comptroller’s Office from where she retired as a Training Coordinator and Requirements Analyst

Since Deborah first joined EWTG in 1988, she has participated in a variety of committees fostering Education, Membership, Mini-Courses, Sponsorship Development, Scholarships, and the Annual Conferences. She has held board positions as Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Officer and currently serves as Membership Director.

In 2015, Deborah spearheaded the creation of “EWTG membership moment”, a President’s Reception, and a Capitol Reception. Her membership drive promotions and events have encouraged more member and guest participation, resulting in a 51% increase in membership over the previous year. She also enjoys the benefits of being part of an Executive Success Team and acts as a mentor to new EWTG members.

Outside of EWTG Deborah is active on other boards for the Austin Delta Foundation, the Greater Austin YWCA, and the Black American Comptrollers Employees Association consistently demonstrating her support of advancing the personal and professional development of women.

Volunteerism has always been a top priority to Deborah, serving organizations such as the Women’s Advocacy Project, Mount Olive Food Pantry, Safe Place, Meals on Wheels, raising funds for Katrina, Cancer Awareness. In addition, Deborah loves mentoring youth at Sims Elementary School in Austin and was recognized by the Austin Partners in Education Program for her volunteer efforts.

Please join us again as we congratulate Deborah Shaw-Boatner as 2015 EWTG Woman of the Year.
