EWTG scholarships are awarded on a quarterly basis to those wanting an opportunity for professional advancement or personal growth. Guidelines for qualifying for a scholarship and applications are available on the EWTG website at ewtg.org. Email your 2015 first quarter application to the Scholarship Committee by 5:00 p.m. on November 30, 2015.

EWTG Board Meetings

The EWTG Board holds its monthly meetings at the MItte Carriage House in Austin on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The agenda for each meeting will be posted on EWTG's website by noon on the Monday before the meeting.

Committee Volunteers Needed

Please look over the Committee Descriptions on the EWTG website and consider becoming more active in the organization.

Participating on a committee is a great way to support EWTG, learn new skills and to meet other interesting executive women. As with so many things, "the more you give, the more you get."

November 2015

President's Corner

Ladies of EWTG, we’re in the home stretch now…polishing and preparing for the 2015 EWTG Annual Professional Development Conference in just a few short weeks!  By now, I hope you’re registered and ready for Sunday evening’s festivities and a fun, busy, educational day on Monday.  The conference committee, led by our Vice President Bobbe Walker, has a very special time planned for you.  With speakers like Dr. Beverly Chiodo and former state Senator Leticia van de Putte lined up, you cannot afford to miss this conference.

Leading EWTG this year and planning for this conference has, in some ways, reminded me of some early life lessons. As a kid, I used to work cattle with my father, brothers and neighboring cowhands on our West Texas ranch.  Always the only female, I quickly learned that I had to be fearless, uncomplaining and responsible.

Gathering cattle in the pasture at dawn meant riding horseback, alone, into rocky, brushy canyons searching for every cow. Once found, I was responsible for getting them to the gathering herd without incident. Then the men (and me) would ride in around the margins of the herd, keeping the herd together, calm and headed toward the working pens.  Sometimes the lead cow wanted to take the long way, but that was okay as long as all the cattle ended up in the working pens free from anxiety or injury.

Now, ladies, I am in no way comparing cattle to humans here (at least not now), but the lessons I learned apply to both.  First, no one accomplishes anything worthwhile all by themselves…it takes a committee, each member with different attributes, doing what they do best. It takes skill, with everyone committed to the end goal and their role in achieving it. It takes timing, ensuring that the right pieces come together at the right time.  Most of all, it takes cooperation, with each person fulfilling their own responsibility while helping others achieve theirs.

So come, be a part of EWTG at the Conference.  Celebrate the work many, many EWTG members have invested in you and in each other.  Learn from the many speakers who are volunteering their time to share their experiences.  Come to expand your skills, your horizons and your network of hard working, professional women.  Most of all, come and be a part of something larger than yourself.

2015 EWTG President

Important Information About 2016 EWTG Dues

By: Laure McLaughlin, President

The 2015 EWTG Board of Directors, at the October board meeting, unanimously approved changes to our organization’s dues, effective January 1, 2016.

Dues for all members, whether full or public/private partners, will be $75 annually on that date.  Retiree dues will be $40 annually at the same time.

Reasons for the dues changes are many, but I will leave you with one thought.  The board and I researched EWTG history and exchanged information with past EWTG executive directors. Not once could anyone find evidence of or recall that dues had ever been changed. Assuming that regular member dues were $50 in 1986, the year of EWTG’s founding, today’s dues would have to be $108.55 to have the same buying power, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ CPI Inflation Calculator.  Even going back to 1996, $50 dues then would have to be $75.83 now to maintain buying power.

EWTG memberships are valid for one year from the date paid.

For current members, the Conference will be an excellent time to ensure your dues are paid prior to the end of this year.  Dues also may be paid online as usual at ewtg.org. Any dues paid or received after January 1, 2016 will be at the new rate.

Executive Success Teams are off to a great start!

By: Jennifer Dormer, President Elect

The Mentorship Committee met in October to review 33 member applications.  We were able to match each member to either an existing team looking for new members or a new team.  The Mentorship Committee created 6 new teams with the 33 applications received.  That brings our total EST teams to 11!

The Mentorship Committee sent out communication to all new EST teams so they can begin to meet.  If you submitted an application and did not get an email from the Mentorship Committee, please contact Jennifer Dormer at preselect@ewtg.org.  Either we did not receive your application or we do not have the correct contact information for you.

Good luck to all the teams!
