Quarterly Scholarships

EWTG scholarships are awarded on a quarterly basis to those wanting an opportunity for professional advancement or personal growth. All interested members are encouraged to apply; financial need is not a factor. Take a moment to treat yourself to a course you have been putting off or a conference you would love to attend.

Guidelines for qualifying for a scholarship and applications are available on the EWTG website at Email your 2015 first quarter application to the Scholarship Committee by 5:00 p.m. on June 30, 2015.

EWTG Board Meetings

The EWTG Board holds its monthly meetings at the Carver Library in Austin on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The agenda for each meeting will be posted on EWTG's website by noon on the Monday before the meeting.

A summary of the board meeting minutes is also posted on the website.

Committee Volunteers Needed

Please look over the Committee Descriptions on the EWTG website and consider becoming more active in the organization.
Participating on a committee is a great way to support EWTG, learn new skills and to meet other interesting executive women. As with so many things, "the more you give, the more you get."

President's Corner

Dear EWTG members,

We’ve all heard that the Austin city staff was told in a training session recently, and rather infamously, that women leaders don’t like to hear about numbers.  Um, hmmm, we all thought to ourselves.  To test that unproven theory, several board members (including moi), decided to present EWTG financial information at the May members-only luncheon.  So, let me challenge you to a little test.  Affiliate members, you need to know this, too.

1.  You know about EWTG’s annual conference.  How much does it cost EWTG to put it on?

a)  $65,000+    b) $85,000+     c) $105,000+   d) $115,000+

2.  You’ve also heard by now, I hope, that EWTG is in the process of redesigning the website, not only to update it, but also to allow the website to be viewed on and interact with mobile devices.  (Imagine being able to make a reservation for an EWTG event and pay for it on your phone…heaven!)  Creating a new, mobile-friendly website compatible with our current platform costs a minimum:

 a) $2,500         b) $5,000         c) $7,500         d) $10,000

3.  EWTG’s dues, which haven’t been raised in perhaps as long as 25 years, support what percentage of EWTG’s annual budget?

a) 8%               b) 18%             c) 28%             d) 38%

 4.  Who was quoted in the presentation?

a) Susan B. Anthony   b) Warren Buffett   c) Mr. Magoo   d) Marilyn Monroe

To find the answers, you will need to view either the video of the luncheon, or the presentation itself, both posted in the members-only section of the website.  And I know you will, if for no other reason to prove those trainers wrong.  Right, ladies???

Legislative Update

By: Susan Biles, Legislative Chair

As I write this there are still a few days left in the legislative session but we know the results of many of the big issues. The House and Senate went through their usual end of session routine, knocking each other’s bills down and loading up “Christmas tree” bills with amendments of bills that died, trying to sneak in changes, furiously negotiating and working long days.  With 3 days left in the session, over 800 bills have gone to the Governor.

Building Buddies Still Looking!

By: Laure McLaughlin, President

Want an easy, fun way to volunteer?  Be a “Building Buddy” to help new EWTG members who work in your office building.  All you need to do is agree to be an EWTG point person to guide, direct and possibly carpool with new EWTG members who may be a bit shy about getting involved, or who have a question.  There are LOTS of state buildings out there, and we need a Building Buddy in each one.  Affiliates, you can have building buddies, too!  Email to volunteer now and get your name on this list!
