"Survivor - My Version"

Our featured luncheon speaker for June will be Ms. Raette Smith Hearne has more than 20 years of state government experience. She currently serves as director of administration for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and executive sponsor for the agency’s Wellness Committee. The agency has implemented an award-winning wellness program under her leadership. Her commitment has helped drive agency employees toward their fitness and wellness goals, and has helped raise awareness for issues related to health and fitness. Program initiatives include quarterly fitness challenges, the Weight Watchers at Work program, fitness classes, an annual wellness fair and lunchtime information sessions where employees come together to discuss health-related topics.. As a breast cancer survivor, Raette has dedicated herself to helping people who face similar challenges. Since her diagnosis and subsequent recovery 13 years ago, she has served as a board member of the American Cancer Society, where she has volunteered for Relay for Life. In addition to her roles at the Comptroller’s office, Raette serves on the Texas Statewide Wellness Program committee. Raette has volunteered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Sisters Network, an African-American breast cancer survivorship organization
In 2007, Gov. Rick Perry appointed her as vice chair for the Governor’s Commission for the Women’s State Agency Council. In 2006, she was named the first African-American Hero of Hope for the Central Texas Region. In 2002, Raette helped establish the first ACS Relay for Life event for Huston-Tillotson College. The following year, she chaired the event. She received a Bachelor in Business Administration in Marketing from the University of North Texas and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Texas-Permian Basin. She also is a graduate of the Intermediate School of Banking at Texas Tech University. Prior to joining the Comptroller’s office, she worked at the Texas Department of Agriculture, Office of the Attorney General of Texas, and United Way of Midland. Ms. Hearne’s presentation is titled “Survivor – My Version”.
Please join EWTG members and friends for this insightful and dynamic program. The luncheon is held at the Austin Woman’s Club, 708 San Antonio Street (ample free parking). Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. The program starts at noon and concludes at 1:00 p.m. The cost is $20 for EWTG members and $25 for guests.

* The EWTG Community Service Committee will be collecting school supplies for the next two months for the Ann Richards School. We would like to collect at least 500 pens and pencils and be able to make a delivery in August before school bells ring again. Other items needed include:
