By: Denice Bettencourt
EWTG presents Melinda Garvey as the April 25 EWTG Monthly Luncheon speaker. Ms. Garvey will discuss the power of women in business today and how executive women can keep motivated during these crazy times. She will weave her story through personal examples.
Melinda Garvey is regarded as one of the most dynamic women in the greater Austin area for her work as a successful female entrepreneur, community philanthropist and role model.
As founder and publisher of Austin Woman Magazine, and the new ATXMAN Magazine she is responsible for leading the fastest-growing niche publications in Central Texas. As a community leader, she is a powerful contributor to many Austin organizations and serves as a mentor for young organizations and businesses. Currently, Ms. Garvey is serving as Entrepreneur In Residence for The McCombs Business School at The University of Texas at Austin.
With proven publishing and marketing expertise, Ms. Garvey has guided Austin Woman Magazine to become the first successful women’s business and lifestyle publication highlighting entrepreneurs and causes in the greater Austin area. The magazine has become highly recognized for its in-depth profiles and success stories on distinguished, educated and interesting women, with well-remembered covers on Susan Dell, Luci Baines Johnson, Jody Conradt, Liz Carpenter, Wilhelmina Delco, Elizabeth Christian, Gay Gaddis and many others. ATXMAN, after only a few short months, is following closely in its sibling’s footsteps with a focus on the great men in Austin.
In 2006, Ms. Garvey was one of nine women nationwide selected to receive Office Depot’s “Businesswoman of the Year” Award.  She also is the 2006 winner of BIG Austin’s “Most Creative Company Award” and the Greater Austin Business “Community Advocate Award.” Austin Woman also recently won the Hispanic Chamber “Best Media” award and BIG Austin’s award for “Best Business Practices”.
Melinda Garvey is a graduate of DePauw University and holds a Masters in International Management from the University of Maryland. When she’s not selling the publication or buzzing about the community, she enjoys spending time with her wonderful New Zealander husband and four year old son, Beckom.
