Donna Rolland
1999 Woman of the Year

Donna Rolland was named EWTG's 1999 Woman of the Year during the 13th annual professional development conference held in Austin on November 21st and 22nd. The award recognizes an individual who has distinguished herself in our organization, her profession, and her community. The recipient of the Woman of the Year award epitomizes the values for which EWTG stands and represents the best of who we are as women and as leaders.

Donna joined EWTG in 1993. In 1995 she served as the Conference Facilities Chair for the annual conference. In mid-1998, after the resignation of the Vice President, Donna graciously agreed to step in, taking on the last minute challenge of coordinating the annual conference. In 1999, Donna once again served as Vice President and Annual Conference Chair, overseeing nine committees, and organizing one of the best conferences in EWTG history.

Donna's dedication to the fight against breast cancer is especially noteworthy. In 1997, Donna was elected to the Board of Directors of the Breast Cancer Resource Center. This year, she served as the Corporate Teams Co-chair for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She also proposed that EWTG become a partner in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Through Donna, Eli Lilly agreed to match EWTG contributions up to $10,000. That partnership brought EWTG credit for raising over $20,000 for a great cause, and raised EWTG's profile as a community service organization.

As well as working for the cure of breast cancer, Donna has been active in numerous community organizations. Appointed by Lt. Governor Bob Bullock in 1993 to the State Policy Committee of the State Employee Charitable Campaign, Donna serves as the 1999 Campaign Chair. She has been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and served on the Advisory Committee for the Leadership Enrichment Arts Program for Youth. The United Way Capital Area Campaign and the Zonta International Austin Club are two other organizations in which she has been active.

A native of Chicago, Donna earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University. In 1981, Donna moved to Texas and began working with Austin Community College as a program coordinator, administrator and lecturer. Her career in state government began in 1987. She worked for the Office of the Attorney General and the Railroad Commission before accepting her current position in 1995 as Director of Human Resources with the Senate of Texas.

Donna devotes her talents to helping others. She has worked tirelessly for EWTG and the community. To quote of one of the nominators, “She gives with a glad heart.”

Congratulations to EWTG’s 1999 Woman of the Year, Donna Rolland!
