A1: STOP, COLLABORATE & LISTEN: Cultivating Agency Success & Promotion Readiness Through Negotiation Magic

Abstract

This deeply interactive workshop will teach participants the professional development magic of collaborative negotiation skills in three ways: 1) through learning two key collaborative negotiation tactics, 2) through participating in short and fun role-based negotiation simulation, and 3) by hearing from the experience of two women leaders on how to create collaborative environments and bring stakeholders together to create maximum value for everyone. Participants will also have a chance, through facilitated discussion, to share how relationship-building through the art of collaboration has sowed the seeds of success and boosted careers through creating promotion velocity. Learning Objectives: 1. Learn the value of using open-ended questions, especially to dissolve miscommunication and increase cooperation in high stakes situations. 2. Learn the art of “log-rolling” to help optimize deals and decisions. Log-rolling is the tactic of setting priorities in a negotiation and then trading issues with your counterpart to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. 3. Practice an actual negotiation simulation, using those two tactics. Agenda: Quick intro (3 minutes) Micro-lecture on collaborative negotiation and how to use open-ended questions and the log-rolling technique. (11 minutes) Collaborative Negotiation Simulation (in pairs) (11 minutes) Debrief of simulation (5 minutes) Panelist discussion with insights from Juliane Crocker (TDLR) and Meg Hare (Accenture) (10 minutes) Group discussion and final Q/As (10 minutes)
