About the Speakers:
Audrey Selden -

Audrey Selden (Austin, Texas) is the Board President for Leadership Women Inc., a social enterprise that has been at the forefront of women’s leadership education for more than 35 years.  Leadership Women helps women and their organizations grow by offering opportunities for women to learn more, lead better, and leave a positive legacy. 

Audrey retired as the Deputy Commissioner for Compliance at the Texas Department of Insurance in August 2013 with more than 20 years in public service.  She served as the Texas Assistant Secretary of State from 1991 to 1994.  She is a 2004 graduate of Leadership America, and a 1992 graduate of Leadership Texas.  She went to India with Leadership International in 2013.  She serves on the Executive Women in Texas Government Scholarship Committee and is a former EWTG Board member.  Audrey graduated from Harvard Law School in 1986 and clerked for U.S. District Judge William Wayne Justice.  Previous employment included litigation associate at a private firm and college administration. 

She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University.  The YWCA honored Audrey with the 2010 Woman of the Year Award for Racial Justice.  She also received the 2001 Women on Their Toes award from Austin Ballet for outstanding volunteer service and the 1997 Ma Ferguson Award for Excellence in the Public Sector. 

Lucinda Edwards -
Lucinda Edwards is a currently Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor III (VRC) for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services/Division for Rehabilitation Services.  Ms. Edwards has served in this position for ten years assisting individuals with physical and mental health disabilities return back into the workforce. 

Ms. Edwards served on the Board of Directors of the Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) as the representative for Health and Human Services and Liaison for Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS). In this position, she served on policy and procedures committees assisted with the revision of policy manual and the implementation of a five year strategic plan.  Ms. Edwards also served six years as President of the Austin Area Urban League Young Professionals Organization and as a member of the National Urban League Council. 

Before coming to DRS, Ms. Edwards served as the Education and Human Resource Manager at AAUL. She was responsible for several million dollars grants for various programs. These included Workforce Investment Act, CHOICES through Temporary Assistance for Needy Children, and Workforce Development.  Ms. Edwards secured the renewal of each grant while working in partnership with the community partners.

Ms. Edwards graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She also graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a master’s degree in Education/Disability Law, and obtained a master’s degree in Social Work Administration/Supervision Practice from Texas State University.  Ms. Edwards is currently doctoral candidate at Walden University in Public Policy Administration with specialization in Public Law.  

Ms. Edwards is a recent graduate of the Texas DRS Leadership Academy Cohort V class of 2013 and as well as a graduate of Leadership Texas through Leadership Women class of 2012.  Previous to those leadership cohorts she is also a graduate of the Hispana Leadership Summit class of 2009.  
 

The mini-course begins at 11:30 AM and the program begins at noon, ending promptly at 1 PM. The mini-course is located at the Carver Library, 1161 Angelina St., TX 78702.

EWTG will provide pizza, loads of fresh green salad, dessert and drinks for $10, or you can bring your own brown bag lunch.
