BRAZOS VALLEY AFFILIATE HISTORY

In September 2010, several women in the Bryan-College Station area met to discuss the possibility of forming a Brazos Valley Affiliate chapter of the EWTG. The concept was met with enthusiasm and energy. The decision was made at that meeting to proceed with formation of the Brazos Valley Affiliate, with 15 founding members.

We continue to grow in membership and our activities provide women engaged in public service in the Brazos Valley with opportunities to gain knowledge and experience, and to meet other women involved in public service. We have access to a host of enriching events such as monthly luncheons featuring engaging speakers, brown-bag mini courses, and community service opportunities, as well as the Annual Professional Development Conference in Austin. We are looking forward to a successful year in expanding our local membership affiliation, attending a few of the Austin Luncheons, and gaining more insight into what other affiliates are doing and how we can make a difference in our community.

EWTG Austin and affiliates from The Brazos Valley and Houston invite all EWTG members to join us for a group event at Space Center Houston. The event will begin on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 am. We will start with lunch at Luby’s Cafeteria. The address is 1600 Nasa Road One, Houston, TX 77058. After lunch, the event will progress to Space Center Houston (across the street from Luby’s) on NASA Road One.

This is an opportunity to view the Mission Mars exhibit. Guests experience a Martian sunset, climb into a simulated Orion capsule and feel the texture or rock cliffs inspired by the red planet. Patrons can also view Independence Plaza, a multi-exhibit complex featuring the historic Boeing 747 shuttle carrier aircraft and the shuttle replica Independence. Finally, guests will have an opportunity to take a tram tour from Space Center Houston over to the NASA facility. Tour Tram includes a choice of mission control used during the moon landing or view astronauts in training and the underwater mock space station training center. There are tons of interactive exhibits and much to see!

We are working toward a prepaid group rate of $16.50 per person. EWTG members are welcome to register family members as part of this group event and outing. Please note that Space Center charges $6.00 per car for parking. This is a separate fee from entry. Please watch for further details on how to register for this event. Registration deadline will be close of business (5pm) on August 2, 2018.

PAST BRAZOS VALLEY EVENTS

EWTG-BV hosted a tailgate for members, family, and friends before the Texas A&M vs New Mexico State football game.  We had a wonderful grill chef, Ponch Gonzales, Husband of member Vicki Gonzales, who grilled up burgers and hot dogs for our group. We had a great time with music, games and getting to know our tailgate neighbors. We stood out in the crowd with our bright red shirts amongst a sea of maroon, but we had a great time, made some wonderful memories, and hopefully started a new annual event.
