Questions May Offer Best Answers for Talking About Tough Topics

Guest Speaker

Lynda Baker

President and Founder of MeetingSolution
Certified Professional Facilitator

Have you ever been in meetings where it was difficult to figure out the point of the discussion? Where only a few people participated? Perhaps it was unclear whether a decision was in sight? Chances are you are like most of us and sadly have had more than your fair share of these frustrating and unproductive experiences. The answer to these problems may actually be in learning how to develop and ask the right questions, whether as the leader or as a participant.

In this mini-course, Lynda Baker, a certified professional facilitator, will bring us more than twenty years of experience facilitating group dialogue and will provide insights into a meeting technique called the Focused Conversation.

This foundational method is part of the Technology of Participation suite of tools developed by the Institute of Cultural Affairs. The method involves asking questions that mirror the natural way people process information: guiding a conversation through the objective, reflective, interpretative and decisional levels.

The session promises to be engaging and involves both questions and answers. You will leave the session with a tool you can use to begin to guide conversations in more meaningful ways than you have ever considered before.

Lynda Baker, president and founder of MeetingSolution, is a leader in the field of group process consultation and values-based meeting facilitation. She has served on the board of directors of the International Association of Facilitators (IAF), as a past president of the Austin, Texas chapter of the Association for Talent Development, and on the regional board of the Southwest Facilitators Network.

Certified as a Technology of Participation (ToP™) facilitator, a mentor trainer in the ToP™ methodology, and an assessor for the Institute for Cultural Affairs certification program, she is particularly adept at engaging and managing high levels of participation and achieving actionable results. She specializes in facilitating participatory strategic planning.

In addition to her work as an organization development consultant, she has worked in higher education administration, as well as serving as a management analyst and as a strategic communication specialist in Texas State government.
