Something New and Different!

Wednesday, September 25th 5:30 p.m. DINNER - paid for by EWTG!
You do need to register for catering purposes, so please RSVP

By Laure McLaughlin, Past President (2015), Legislative Committee Chair and 2020 Nominations Committee Chair.

This month, instead of the usual monthly luncheon, your board decided to have a DINNER instead, which will be paid for by EWTG. How about that for thinking outside the box? We’ll still meet at the Austin Women’s Club, 708 San Jacinto, with loads of FREE parking behind the Club, on the Nueces side of the building.

Come right after work at 5:30 p.m to meet, greet and visit with your EWTG friends. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m after a Docent Tour of the House starting at 5:30 p.m.

Our program will then begin at 6:45 p.m. and will be led by moi and other past board officers to discuss why YOU should consider being on the 2020 EWTG board! We will talk about what being on the EWTG board means – from individual job duties to learning about what goes on behind the scenes of your fabulous EWTG and the skills you’ll learn with board service, not to mention the new friends you’ll make.

If you’ve ever served on the EWTG board, COME. If you’re interested in serving on the board, COME. And if you know someone who would be an excellent board member, BRING THEM!

Nominations for next year’s board are open now until October 1, 2019. Don’t be shy – you can nominate yourself, ask your best friend to nominate you, or nominate that co-worker who seems to get everything done with a big smile and little fuss.

A personal note: In case you’re feeling a little unsure about serving on the board, I want you to know, I did too, during my first go-round as Program Director. But soon I learned some very important lessons that helped me in life:

  1. Showing up is 90 percent of the job.
  2. Doing the best I could was all anyone ever expected.
  3. It was OK to have fun! (I like to think of it as causing just a teeny bit of trouble.)
  4. It was OK to do my job differently than the person who did it before me.
  5. I needed and wanted help, so I asked other EWTG members to be on the Program Committee and share the duties. Then I started asking everyone for help…and they delivered.
  6. Unless you want to be Program Director forever, find and train your replacement.
  7. And if you can't get volunteers, EWTG will help. During the November 24-25 EWTG Annual Professional Development Conference and Reception, EWTG plans to recruit committee members!

Please RSVP and enjoy a free dinner along with a great networking and informative evening! See you September 25th!
