Shalyn Bridges photo21st Century Dining for Professionals

Guest Speaker

Shalyn Bridges
Etiquette Instructor, Bridges Etiquette & Academics

Our everyday behaviors, especially in the way we eat, reveals so much of who we are in life. Following up on Positive First Impressions presented at last year's mini course, this session will focus on maintaining that positive persona when dining. In this hands-on workshop, we will practice three dining styles: American, Continental, & cocktail party dining, which will be useful in preparation for EWTG’s annual conference. We will also discuss the etiquette and dining skills of informal meals like tacos and pizza, to very formal, multi-coursed meals that require a variety of utensils and stemware. It’s all about how to put your best foot – and fork – forward when you step out into the world!

A certified trainer from the American School of Protocol, Shalyn Bridges is the owner of Bridges Etiquette & Academics, LLC, which offers private instruction on the social and dining skills. Bridges Etiquette & Academics help students in various stages of development from grade school through those applying to college or getting ready to enter the job market, as well as academic tutoring in math, English, reading comprehension, and study skills. She is also an experienced law librarian specializing in legal and legislative research and government documents, and a certified paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants. She is currently the Senior Paralegal & Law Librarian in the legal division of the Texas Legislative Council. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in politics and history from Cornell College in Iowa, and a Master of Library and Information Science from The University of Texas at Austin. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, photography, writing, literature, tennis, and community volunteerism.

The program begins at noon, lunch is served at 11:45 a.m.  To help you make the most of your lunchtime, EWTG will have pizza from Eastside Pies, fresh green salad, a drink and dessert for $10 per person, or you can bring your own lunch. Pizza will be served from 11:45 a.m. to noon. The program begins at noon and ends by 1:00 p.m. The mini-course is held at the Carver Library, 1161 Angelina St., TX 78702 - view map.

Cancellations must be received 24 hours prior to the event to receive a refund for pizza orders.  Acceptable forms of payment onsite are cash or check. For information contact EWTG by email, ewtg@ewtg.org or by telephone, 512-220-4298.
