Executive Women in Texas Government (EWTG) is a non-partisan organization that promotes
leadership in service to Texas by offering professional development opportunities.

History
Executive Women in Texas Government was founded in 1984 by six visionary women who
recognized the need for women in higher levels of state government to have an educational
and networking support group. The names of the women are Evelyn Ireland, Karen Johnson,
Tamara-Shae Oatman, Mary Polk, Nelda Wells Spears and Claudia Stravato. Tamara and
Claudia are still active members.
The first meeting was announced by word-of-mouth and over 100 women attended!
